East Perth Power Station Cultural Strategy

The East Perth Power Station is an industrial icon on the edge of city’s Swan River. In 2015, Perth’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) opened the heritage-listed building and surrounding 8.5ha site for expressions of interest (EOI). The MRA’s vision is for a vibrant neighbourhood with a mix of businesses, homes and leisure facilities, with a creative and cultural solution that responds to the site’s structures and history.

A site of significant historic importance, the project team worked to develop strategic and creative proposal, with a multi-use solution.

The project required extensive research and trend analysis of the cultural and artistic landscape of Perth, as well as looking to best practice examples from Australia and around the globe to identify trends in the creative economy, and the redevelopment and reuse of industrial space, to produce a compelling EOI proposal.
